Hello Sunshine!

The last several days have been beautiful and so it is with great joy that I hang the laundry on the line. How I will love crawling into the bed made with the crisp clean sheets.

This morning I loaded up Big Blue the pickup with 8 bags of this local organic soil. I wasn't going to purchase any this year and meant to use only compost and the Mr. was to do a good tilling, but the excessive rain has made that impossible and time is running out...maybe next year.

The chickens lovingly offered to do some much needed weeding which they made quick work of.

Goldie, who is in charge of garden chores gave them the cluck of a job well done and said it was time to go, sit in the shade and get cleaned up.

This is the backyard that used to be grass. With all of the flooding, this was the highest ground and so I allowed them back here...chickens and really wet ground for a long time somehow make grass go away. Planting grass will be next...Whew!

Off I go to get my hands dirty, Yippee!!

Hasn't it been lovely? I've been weeding, planting, plotting and definitely getting my hands dirty. The hens have been beside themselves and making such a ruckus at unbearably early hours to get out of the coop. I need to build them a fenced run as our new neighbors have big dogs that can get into our yard, and if I don't let them out they will drive me batty. Oh, and they managed to eat all our lettuce despite the bed being "chicken proofed". I still appreciate their industry and keeping us in the best fresh eggs you could hope for.

It's happy work.
Enjoy your sunshine!

When we built the chicken coop last month I lost my clothesline. There is only one spot left to put it now and hubby is resisting. He doesn't like the place he'd have to put it and is holding out for a better spot. It doesn't exist I assure you, so for now I don't get the pleasure of hanging my laundry on the line, and removing the crisp, sweet smelling linens...

Chickens are wonderfully entertaining, and I'm enjoying mine immensely!

We have been having a difficult time also, trying to find any kind of matter that could be considered "soil." I think a few bags of something is in our future if we want any kind of a garden this year.

Love the chicken pics!

Aren't chickens the best garden helpers? Mine love to turn the compost pile for me. If only I could teach them to scratch it all back into a pile after spreading it out all over the yard, LOL.

You are having just too much fun out there. I think I'll hang my clothes out too. Wish you were closer that I could give you some of my composted manure. It's just the prettiest dirt ever this year. Yeah, no rain. Have fun. Debi

there nothing better...a little girl brought a chicken to school for show and tell and it got away after school in the woods next to school oh what a terrible thing!

I love your chickens, such sweeties! I agree, they are wonderful weeders!!
I also love to jump into fresh bedding! It reminds me of my European grandmother who always hung her bedding out the window or off the balcony!
Have a great weekend!

Sherri, I could smell the freshness as soon as I saw the first photo. I remember my mother hanging out sheets even in the winter, and when she retrieved them, they were still frozen. :)
Dirty hands.. my kind of thinking. Enjoy your day.
