The currents are ripening on the bush that I gave my mister on his birthday a few years back.
I finally wised up and put the bird netting over it when I caught the hens helping themselves!
They love the 'septic garden' and have taken to laying their eggs under the big fennel.
You can see this one sneaking in while no one is looking, they like to call it the Summer Nest as it has a bit of an exotic sound to it.
Today is my hubby's birthday and I will be making him a special dinner and trying a new cake. I know many of you have probably made the famous Texas Sheet Cake, but I have never tried it. Daughter Kami has told me that The Pioneer Woman, makes a sheet cake that she claims is the very best, hence the title of the recipe..."The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake, Ever" and it can be found here. I will let you know the results.
So I will leave you now and wish you the sweetest of summer days and a lovely weekend.

currants! what a treat! and happy birthday to the husband!
Love these pictures!
It reminds me so much
of the area where my
parents live in SW WA
State. They've had an
exceptional spring and
summer so far, and it
looks like you are enjoying
the same : )
Enjoy celebrating your
husband's b-day!

I have made a chocolate sheet cake and it is from Texas and it is scrumptious. I'll have to check the ingredients in this one against mine---- they may be the same although as I recall mine has cinnamon in it.
I don't make it often for obvious reasons---too luscious to resist. I think it's all that real butter and sugar!
Enjoy!
Happy Summer and Happy Birthday to your Mister!
Your images are beautiful, Sherry B!
Mr D and I are on the lookout for some nice Current bushes.

Are there enough currants do bake something? I would be madly searching for currant recipes - currant scones, currant muffins, currant cake, currant tea :)
Happy B'Day to you hubby, Sherri!
I just love all your photos of your chickens and the beautiful flowers there at the farm.
Why is it a septic garden? Is it covering your tank?
About the recipe-My Mom made a sheet cake years ago with mayonnaise and it was wonderfully moist, that I remember.
Enjoy your celebration dinner!
just lovely lovely lovely--a very happy birthday wish for your husband and enjoy that cake!!
Oh your berries look so yummy!!! Beautiful Photos!
Chris :o)
A belated happy birthday to your husband! And I love the "caught!" expressions on your chickens. I really need to get some of that netting. I might get some elderberries that way.
I've never seen currents growing and for that matter I haven't seen the fruit in person either. They're beautiful on the plant, looking like little glowing jewels.
To me currents are little dried fruit very much like raisins. So I'm wondering if these are the same currents?
The chicken photo is wonderful.
Gorgeous photos! No septic garden here.. darn this city dwelling. :)
Blessings, Debbie
