The Find and The Fix
When I come across a tin in the sewing section at the thrift shop and I pick it up and it is heavy and things are moving around in it...well, noises almost come out of my mouth. No need to examine the contents, just peek in and verify, that indeed it was a grandmothers old button tin.
Immediately after it goes in my cart, greed sets in and I search for more tins or small boxes with rubber bands around them.
This was a good day...a tin and two small boxes...forgotten treasures from a grandmothers sewing room.

The Fix - It seems that Blogger has finally fixed the problem with the comments and sign in...At least for me it has been all fixed for hours, I hope it is for all of you as well.

May you all have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.

Problems, Blogger or Me?
I signed in this morning and went to visit as usual and when I went to post the comment it said I was not signed in and to choose an account, so I did and it I entered my email and password and it kept saying it was incorrect....so I can't leave any comments and perhaps can't even post this.
Is anyone else having this problem?
If you can read this post but can't leave a comment please email me at my little house email.
If my email doesn't work please email me at tsbryant2@hotmail.com to let me know.
Thanks!

Hello Sunshine!
The last several days have been beautiful and so it is with great joy that I hang the laundry on the line. How I will love crawling into the bed made with the crisp clean sheets.
This morning I loaded up Big Blue the pickup with 8 bags of this local organic soil. I wasn't going to purchase any this year and meant to use only compost and the Mr. was to do a good tilling, but the excessive rain has made that impossible and time is running out...maybe next year.
The chickens lovingly offered to do some much needed weeding which they made quick work of.
Goldie, who is in charge of garden chores gave them the cluck of a job well done and said it was time to go, sit in the shade and get cleaned up.
This is the backyard that used to be grass. With all of the flooding, this was the highest ground and so I allowed them back here...chickens and really wet ground for a long time somehow make grass go away. Planting grass will be next...Whew!

Off I go to get my hands dirty, Yippee!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away..Please!
We are still waiting to plant most everything. Above is the flowers on the male kiwi that I got
for Mother's Day, to replace the one we lost over the winter. As you can see we bought a more mature plant to give him a better chance and hopefully not have to replace again.
Above, is one of two figs that we got to replace the one that was also lost this winter. And joining the table party is a tomato plant I picked up for my honey when I was in Vancouver last week.
I couldn't pass this up when I read on the tag that the fruit weighs from 1 to 2 lbs. and has gotten up to 5 lbs. Wow! I have never seen this kind before and it was the only one there. Are any of you familiar with it? I'd love to hear about it.
I'm worried that my Kale is getting too leggy, fingers crossed that soon I will be able to get it in the garden out back.
Finally, my flats of flowers for my window boxes....still waiting on the porch. I do believe I will put on rain gear and boots and plant them anyway.

Hope you all are having better weather and I am now praying for an Indian Summer for sure!

Have a lovely Monday.

A Year of Slow Cooking
I was pleasantly surprised with all of the interest in the last post on the Rival CrockPot and how many of you are still using yours. With you all in mind the search began for some recipes to share in a follow up post and I am pleased to share a very special find. Perhaps you are already familiar with this blog.....
*** CrockPot Granola ***
A Year of Slow Cooking, but it is new to me and I couldn't be more thrilled with the find. Started in 2008 by Stephanie O'dea who set out to do 365 days of slow cooking and has not stopped sharing yet. As you can imagine, she is a wealth of information after nearly 3 1/2 years of practice! You will also find gluten intolerance issues addressed as one of her children was diagnosed at an early age with Celiac, and with more family members and friends being diagnosed with this disorder it is just another plus to have this wonderful blog to turn to.

Stephanie has also compiled her experience in two books that would be a bonus to have on our kitchen bookshelves, "Make It Fast, Cook It Slow" and "More, Make It Fast, Make It Slow", more info here. Thanks Stephanie!

An Old Rival
In the 70's, when I first began my journey into the wonderful world of cooking, I had in my kitchen an appliance that no self respecting cook of that time would be without...The original Rival CROCK-POT. It served me well for years and for one reason or another was abandoned and forgotten as new interests in that area came along. Years later I bought a new 'improved' model but was very disappointed with the boiling instead of slow cooking so out that one went and on to the next, with the same sorry results. What to do? I really wanted that famous 8 hour, turn a tough, inexpensive piece of meat tender, result again. The only answer to this would be, find that old Crock-pot, and that I did and a book to go with. Thank you Kiwanis Thrift Store!

Do any of you have an old one or have you found a new one that works well? What is your favorite thing to make in your Crock pot? My daughter is currently making overnight granola in the old one I picked up for her, which is now the only one she uses as it actually cooks on low.
*
I'm off now to put a ham bone and some beans in mine and dinner will be covered....Thank you old Rival.
