What Is It ?

Happy Wednesday, my friends. Hope your week has been a good one so far.

I am stumped by this thrift shop find and need your help in solving the mystery. My Google and Bing searches have led me only to Finland and foreign languages.

Sorry about the quality of the photo...the weather is dark and gloomy and I had  to use my Point and Shoot.

Here is what is on  the bottom.  It says, Made in Finland and below that,  to the best of my ability to make it out, it says...Design   E. Landenpera, in all capitals as you can see.

Whatever light you could shine on this would be appreciated and it will be fun to see what you all know or guess at...

Thanks in advance!  xo

I am with Pam. Some sort of thing for weaving..does it look like perhaps it hooks into another piece or something? I found this link on how to make your own weaving thingy and it looks somewhat like that Sherri...

i posted it on facebook, Sherri. How tall is it?

It is an interesting piece and I love that color. I'm guessing that it has something to do with weaving, with the slots to hold various threads. Other than that, no clue.

Now some else asks if the slots are even. I guess are they evenly spaced apart and are their actual width even too. thanks!

It's pretty fabulous looking no matter WHAT it is... but I think it has to do with yarn... and knitting!

I have no idea, so I would just keep it sitting around for a conversation piece :)

What a fun piece!! I would think maybe something with yarn? Hopefully someone will know! ;) xo Heather

It's made by Espika. The oy depicts it as a Finnish company. The name at the bottom is who designed it. This company mainly made wooden candle holders. This is obviously not a candle holder so beyond that I am stumped.

Beautiful find! Kudos! Maybe a knife holder? (with the slots at the bottom round - meh, on second thought, that doesn't make sense.) How tall?

Hi Sherry! Well, this has me stumped! I first glance, I thought of cheese..something to do with measuring and cutting? I don't think so.....yarning or weaving is a great guess tho! Please let us know if you find out! Have a wonderful and blessed weekend! Roxie

My mom would find things like this at garage sales and say: "Wow! This is only a dollar!" "But what IS it, Mom?" "I don't know, but it's only a dollar!"

Hmm. Well, it's not a fiber arts object that I'm familiar with. That looks like a spindle though, with slots to hold up to six strands of yarn for plying. It looks fixed though, so there would be no way to twist the yarns together, which is what I'd expect a spindle to be used for. Other than that, I'm stumped!

Agree with what Elaine from Ted and Bunny said. :) xo

Hmmm....very interesting! It looks like you might use it for spinning, but I honestly have no clue as to what it is :)
I hope you can figure it out.

Hugs to you,

I'd say it is a napkin holder. There was a bird napkin holder with that kind of slots (Paavo Asikainen, just google him), and this was maybe a copycat edition. Both Finnish, and from the same era. Espika was cheaper, Asikainen was expensive, that would explain it.
