My Prize Arrives

I finally won something and it was worth the wait. These precious earrings and the thoughtful feminine packaging are from Ali at Magic Beans. She has a shop mulberrydog.co.uk , where you will find more of her artistic jewelry. My gift was one of two generous runner up prizes, the first prize was this delicate bird necklace here. It was a fun contest and I will certainly enjoy my earrings, thanks Ali.

Happy Monday to all.

Chicks Treat

Brooster the rooster spies something out in the run. "What could that be? I'd better go check it out."
"Wow" he exclaims," it's popcorn, fresh made, not Mom and Dad's leftovers from the night before. Girls, come and get it....

That should keep them quiet for awhile, Brooster thinks as he leaves them to their munching......what a great beginning for the weekend.

*Hope your weekend will be full of nice surprises.

Mr. B.'s Birthday

Happy Birthday to my honey! I bought him these pear trees. They both are varieties that we are not familiar with so I hope they turn out as good as the description says. They are. Moonglow and Conference.
As you can see this one already has some fruit on it. He was pretty surprised and pleased.
*
*
My window boxes have finally started filling in a bit, looks like they might do pretty well.

Mr. B. will have a good dinner and fresh strawberry shortcake after. I just got back from Schuh Farms where the berries are local and they also carry the fresh local heavy cream for whipping. But the real bonus was the biscuits just being put out (homemade), so that is already done for me. I don't feel too bad taking that shortcut as I just made him a plum upside down cake for Fathers Day.....The sun is out and all is good. Have a good evening.

Quick Garden Update

This is a quick update on the garden mainly because that's all it will take as summer has yet to arrive. I won't get started so as to not ruin your weekend with my really bad attitude. (I am so sick of this weather). ...The little tomato plants above were on clearance at 2 for $1.00. They will go in some sort of pots so they can be brought in the house to ripen if needed (I will have ripe tomatoes no matter what!).
What's this miracle? Mr. B.'s currents starting to ripen, who knows how. The purple flowers are the sage.

Update on straw bale garden. Yes, that is a zucchini seedling. I pushed it down in the bale and took a handful of organic potting soil and patted it down, that's it.

Here are some zucchini plants that I just put on top then heaped potting soil and a little straw and they are doing quite well.
*
*
Not much more to show right now and so I will be off to make a serious attitude adjustment and try to see things in a different light....light, what light? Oh dear, not off to a very good start now am I? Hope you all have a sunny weekend.

Colored Ceilings

Yes painted ceilings! It hasn't been that long ago that you would never leave a ceiling white, it would be like a sin. I am jumping up and down over this and feel this look really finishes a room off. The lovely CreamyLife.com did a nice job of pulling these shots together to give us a feel for this. The entire site is inspiring and I can hardly wait to get my list done today to go back and look at more past posts. Take a look around and I am sure you will find plenty of things for your wish list.
This is a bit formal for my taste but I still like the effect.
*
*
*
Love this. That color takes your eye right up to the formal light fixture in such a simple kitchen.
*
*
*
Picture this space with a white ceiling....nothing really happening.
*
*
*

I will leave you with this one. I am amazed at how the red above and in the flowers, makes this room such a boss (chandelier helps too).
*
*
I am off and running, wishing you all a very productive day.

American Bungalow

I am in love with the Bungalow style of home. You can spot it in pockets all over the country. In my home town of Portland it is very prevalent with the craftsmen style in most areas. These photos are from the American Bungalow magazine, a must have if you appreciate this style. This is an entire article on these homes and the owners in different parts of the country and you can check it out here. Enjoy!

Mt. Erie

On Mothers Day we went to Mt. Erie which is just minutes from The Little House. I had forgotten all about these pictures I took with my old little camera fully intending on sharing with you all, so here are a few.

Below, you can see the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island, just south of us.

Who knows what Maggie and Jack have found so interesting?

There is the ferry on it's way to the other San Juan Islands and most likely Victoria B.C. too.

Hope you enjoyed a bit of our 'paradise'.

We are trying something new. Straw bale gardening. I got in the trusty old pickup and went to the feed store and purchased these to start with. Hopefully the end result will look something like this............

Emmeline's Blog from Norway

Early on in my first days to blog land, I found the Norwegian Interior Blogs. Very interesting indeed. These photos are from Emmeline Blog which is the first one I found in my adventures and led me to a world I had never experienced. I encourage you to take a look around her sidebar at the favorites she has, you won't be disapointed.

Hope you enjoy your visit to Norway. Also you will get a kick out of the translation as it doesn't always make total sense but is still fun.

Have a great day.
